I was drawn to this book's cover and the mention of IKEA in the summary so marketing drew me in!
Annie is SO close to the due date of her first baby and finds herself at IKEA in search of the perfect crib. While there, she shares with the reader how she got to that point in her life and then there's a shift in the store - it's an earthquake. From there the reader accompanies Annie along the streets of Oregon in search of her husband, symbolically her home. I found the novel's pacing slow - almost like she moved in slow motion while everything falls down around her. Once outside the reader observes the destruction and shattered lives in Annie's path yet and roots for her survival.
This was the perfect read for the start of a new year. It showed hope in chaos. The ending was abrupt but I truly enjoyed this read.
